After a rocky stretch that included the deaths of her mother (June Carter), her stepfather (Johnny Cash) and her sister, as well as sundry troubles with the law and addictions, few would have expected that Carlene Carter would return with this collection of tender and sweetly delivered neo-traditional country. But the mix of Bakersfield twang ("Why Be Blue") and bluegrass ("Spider Lace") works well, much helped by producer and former Doobie Brother John McFee.
