You need to hear this one. Classically trained, Matthew Herbert brings together classic R&B, big band jazz, studio wizardry and modern electronics in always fresh, vital and interesting ways. The key to Herbert's success (besides working with fine musicians, including vocalist Eska) is that he uses digital technology soulfully -- and everything (including edgy, modern jazz arrangements) are used to bring out analog feelings. These are tough, political songs but tunes such as "The Rich Man's Prayer," "Waiting" and "Just Swing" are fun and vital instead of preachy.
