Pelican West combines English guitar pop with American funk rhythms, tropical percussion and giddily surreal lyrics, perfectly capturing teen expectations in the process. While Nick Heyward's band was accused of being stereotypical early-1980s New Wave, this actually has aged well, avoiding the thudding drum sound and the overuse of synths so common in this era.
