England's Stateless make the jump from K7 to Ninja Tune with Matilda, their first album since their self-titled 2007 debut. Not to be confused with Stateless, the Swedish nu-jazz act (aka Andreas Saag), this group of border jumpers specializes in melancholic downtempo delivered with brooding aplomb. If they had passports, they'd bear the entry stamp of the Radiohead nation, thanks to the album's skittering rhythms, lush beds of synths and guitars and singer Chris James' gritty purr, which bears more than a passing similarity to Thom Yorke's voice.
