Don't listen to this collection as an Amadou et Mariam album. And if you're looking for the kind of remixes that create collaborative hybrids, well, you mostly won't find those here either. The "Magic Couple" are by no means rigid traditionalists, so their vibrant originals have always been friendly to others' beats and experimentalist endeavors, like the three spacey takes on the already otherworldly synth-pop of "Sabali." But these remixes get so creative they almost color over the couple's inimitable voices. When Akon's presence is the most subtle, you know something strange is going on.
