Stanford trained computer scientist Vienna Teng left her stable career to become an indie singer-songwriter, and many listeners are glad she did. On Dreaming, she comes across as both strong and introspective, and asserts a musical maturity beyond her years. Highlights are "Pontchartrain" and "City Hall," which visit the darker and lighter sides of contemporary events, along with "1 BR / 1 BA," which functions much like a San Francisco urban haiku.
