Keren Ann's second set is sparser, quieter and more centered on her acoustic guitar than her debut. Co-writer/arranger Benjamin Biolay is still aboard, but he tones down his signature sonic flourishes (which are fully evident on the almost psychedelic soul of "Le Corde et les Chaussons"). Highlights include "Ailleurs," a lovely Left Bank retro style number, and the jazzy "Le Chien d'Avant Garde." Both tunes are examples of how Keren Ann finds the sweet spot between languorous pleasure and emotional discomfort. Old rocker alert: "Au Coin de Monde" lifts guitar chords from Kansas' "Dust in the Wind."
