This is Grant Green's first solo outing where he's backed by a pianist rather than a Hammond B-3, but that doesn't diminish his funky, bluesy, highly catchy guitar playing one bit. "God Bless the Child" showcases Green's underrated ballad playing but most of this collection is an upbeat, soul-infused hard bop set, with pianist Kenny Drew matching Green note-for-note.
