Caught somewhere between the Beach Boys and the Carpenters, Free Design were one of the most creative pop acts of the Nixon years. Ignored in their day (they were on a small audiophile label), the baroque pop act has been rediscovered, with their work being feted and remixed by indie rockers (Super Furry Animals, Belle & Sebastian) and hip-hoppers (Madlib, Danger Mouse) alike.
