Like Flies On Sherbert is disjointed, mangled and wrecked. It's also totally amazing. Alex Chilton sets about ripping apart the storied history of Memphis rock 'n' roll with all the sloppy brutishness of an inebriated grappler. Words are slurred, twang perverted and riffs turned upside down and inside out. As for production values, well, there aren't any. In fact, one could argue Chilton created one of the first lo-fi punk albums. Despite all this destruction, Like Flies On Sherbert offered Southern music a future. This isn't petrified museum fare, but living, breathing American roots music.
