Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson -- the guys behind both the Southern Lord label and Sunn O))) -- formed Burning Witch in 1995. This 2008 re-issue collects the doom metal band's entire output: a pair of EPs recorded in 1996 and '97, plus songs from splits with Goatsnake and Asva. Marked by the deliberate pacing and thunderous crashing Sunn O))) would later become known for, Burning Witch's music differs via the presence of drums, more dynamic structures and more frequent vocals. Obviously, this all sounds best at unholy volumes.
