Biografie

Chromeo specialize in electro-funk, but have managed to outlast countless dance fads, from electro-clash to the disco revival. That's because the group is built on durable songwriting, albeit delivered in a cheeky, post-modern style. The Montreal-based duo, David "Dave One" Macklovitch and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel, were initially hip-hop producers. Dave One was well-known as an editor for hipster magazine Vice, as well as collaborating with his brother, acclaimed turntablist Alain "A-Trak" Macklovitch, in the group Obscure Disorder and with the short-lived label Audio Research. By 2001, Dave One joined forces with P-Thugg for Chromeo, issuing the club hit "You're So Gangsta." It got them signed to Vice Records, which released their 2004 debut, She's in Control. The next album, 2007's Fancy Footwork, found Chromeo excelling at its kitschy yet fun '80s homage. One of its singles, "Momma's Boy," became an MTV hit, and the group performed with one of its heroes, Daryl Hall of '80s pop masters Hall & Oates. Chromeo's third album, Business Casual, appeared on Atlantic Records in 2010.
