This massive, three-disc collection of Janis Joplin material covers her earliest recordings up to her final sessions for Pearl. An avalanche of live cuts, unreleased songs and alternate takes, Janis will be as revelatory for folks only familiar with her albums as for the newcomer, if there are any left. Joplin nails Delta blues, acid rock, deep soul, blooze freakery, even country. One of the defining vocalists of the rock era, Joplin's contributions cannot be overstated. Not many artists could get away with such an extensive compilation.
