Hunt Leiberson started singing late - at 26 - and prior to her much-lauded career as a mezzo-soprano, she was a freelance violist. Those rich middle tones work magically on these two cantatas. The oboist blends in around her voice, which seems to melt into the air in quiet, deeply felt tones. Ich habe genug ends with an aria that allows the singer to make piece with death. Hunt Leiberson died in July 2006 at the age of 52, leaving few recordings of her work. This one is a gift.
