On Metronomy's third album, the Brighton band tempers the punkier edges of its dance rock in favor of a softer, more considered sound, brimming with lush vocal harmonies and analog synths. "She Wants" and "The Look" are brilliantly understated funk, equal parts slack and sultry; "The Bay" dangles spiky riffs from elastic bass lines. An ode to founder Joe Mount's seaside hometown of Devon -- complete with crying seagulls -- it's a cross between sunny California beach pop and moodier British traditions, with murky sonics serving as the rain clouds to the jangly chords' silver lining.
