Static Age just might be the Misfits' best album, even if it wasn't released in its entirety until 1997, nearly two decades after it was recorded. This lineup of the Misfits, which disbanded in '80, possessed a violent angularity and mutant mechanical pulse. It's a far artier proposition than the sound that emerged on subsequent albums, including the group's hardcore album, 1983's Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood. The Damned could only dream of sounding this blitzed-out on B-movie horror and trashy pop culture.
