Biografie

Skold -- Tim Skold to his family back in Sweden -- has a career that spans the changes in some of metal's more kitschy and kinky areas over the past quarter century. Born in 1966, he got his start in glam metal as a teen -- no surprise, given that he grew up on Bowie and Sweet records. Tim Skold first explored glam with Kingpin, who were said to be heavily inspired by campy mid-'80s video hypes like Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Zodiac Mindwarp. They renamed themselves Shotgun Messiah for the U.S. market, and their 1989 and 1992 albums creased the U.S. Billboard chart. But before long, industrial beats set Skold on a new path: He put out an electronically inclined one-man-band solo album in 1996, remixed tracks for art-metal bands like Prong, worked with Skinny Puppy spinoff act ohGr, signed on as a member of German metal machine music-makers KMFDM in 1997, and joined Marilyn Manson a half-decade after that. Though still involved with KMFDM and occupied with other side projects, he finally released a second slimy industrial-metal solo album, Anomie, in 2011.
