Written for the ceremony transferring Hong Kong to China in 1997, Symphony 1997: Heaven Earth Mankind is a sprawling, joyous work incorporating strings, bells, handclaps, percussion and numerous solo cello passages played expertly by Yo Yo Ma. The recently unearth 2400-year-old biznzhong bell makes its compositional debut in "Song of Peace" and a children's choir singing Chinese folksongs throughout make for an ethereal listen.
