The Swedes' fifth album is as rambunctious as a bouncy house full of spastic kids high on sugar. Lex Hives opens with a speedy Franz Ferdinand-like rocker whose level of intellect never reaches beyond the shouting of "Come On!" Yet it sounds so good coming from the always brazen Howlin' Pelle and co. "Go Right Ahead" carries on the shout-along play across an ELO riff; Pelle continues to remind us that rock 'n' roll is about excess ("I should be at peace with the world but still I want more"), but he nonetheless offers something for us commoners with bluesy recession ballad "Without the Money."
