Like too many bands that break the mold, Uncle Tupelo's full significance was only realized after the band split, sending Jay Farrar to Son Volt and Jeff Tweedy to Wilco. This compilation of the songwriters' years in Tupelo paints an interesting picture of the partnership, starting with "No Depression," the Carter Family cover from which they took the name of their first LP, and ending with excellent late selections like "Chickamauga" and "New Madrid." All told, this is a solid single volume of highlights from a band whose revolutionary LPs had their share of duds.
