Beschreibung

This is music in a film soundtrack made by sources other than an orchestra. It can include incidental music, theme music, or background music. Following the lead of experimental filmmakers and freed by Hollywood's departure from the studio system in the mid-'60s, mainstream directors began to explore new directions. Non-Orchestral scores helped them create new moods for a modern world. Rock, jazz, and experimental artists and composers from Europe and America began scoring films with unconventional instrumentation. Representative works include the electronic score penned by synthesizer artist Gil Melle for the 1972 science fiction thriller The Andromeda Strain, and the haunting music the Italian progressive rock band Goblin wrote for the 1977 occult horror film Suspiria.
