Remix

Remix refers to all remixes of popular film songs. While in the West, most remixes are dance-oriented, that's not necessarily the case in India and its diaspora. An Indian remix artist may take a golden oldie -- say, a track by the classic Hindi film singer Kishore Kumar -- and set his singing to a modern yet gentle track. Or a remix artist might drape the slickest dance beats over a film song. There's a lot of leeway in the genre, but a primary focus is capitalizing on the ever-evolving tastes of a music-obsessed culture. One remix artist who's paving the way is Dr. Zeus, a British producer who marries electronic styles like 2-step, breakbeat and hip-hop with the Punjabi folk music bhangra.
